As the State’s central financial services provider, Western Australian Treasury Corporation (WATC) cares about the financial health of Western Australia’s government sector. We partner with government entities to achieve sound financial outcomes and provide access to a comprehensive range of corporate finance, debt and investment, risk management and foreign exchange products and advisory services. We also provide our investors with secure and sustainable opportunities.
The Opportunity
This is a pivotal leadership role within WATC, accountable for the strategic direction and performance of the Technology and Change division. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead specialised teams across three core functions: Operations and Security, Solutions, and the Program Management Office.
WATC has a board-ratified technology strategy and a clear sense of where it is heading. The incoming leader inherits a strong platform and the scope to make a genuine impact across enterprise cybersecurity, technology operations, portfolio delivery, data and information governance, vendor management, and digital enablement.
This role will provide expert counsel to the COO, Executive, and Board on technology risk, opportunities and investment, and play an active role in WATC’s leadership team.
About You
Our ideal candidate is a business and people leader first, with deep technology expertise behind them. They govern comfortably across security, cloud operations, delivery, and data, translate complex technology clearly for a non-technical executive audience, and present credibly at Board level.
Solid cybersecurity and cloud infrastructure grounding is essential, alongside a practical understanding of risk frameworks and a track record of delivering complex portfolios. A financial services background is useful but not a requirement. Sound judgment, strong governance instincts, and the ability to deliver in a disciplined environment matter more.
The incoming leader will build on existing capability, maintain a credible professional network, and bring the steadiness to navigate a period of team transition. They see innovation and governance as complementary, not competing. This is a role for someone looking to build something with longevity. A leader who will grow with WATC and shape how technology serves the organisation for years to come.
If you can demonstrate your capabilities against the following key criteria, we would love to hear from you:
- Leadership capability, with the ability to lead across cybersecurity, cloud operations, delivery and data, and influence at Executive and Board Level.
- Strong technical and risk expertise, including cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure and risk frameworks, with a proven track record of delivering complex portfolios.
- Strong governance capability, with the ability to drive disciplined outcomes, navigate change and build capability in a dynamic environment.
- Innovative and future-focused capability, with the ability to identify emerging technologies, assess risk, drive digital transformation and foster a culture of continuous improvement and strategic innovation.
WATC values shape our behaviours and define how we relate to each other, our clients and our community:
Integrity – We are open, honest and accountable. We adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards. We honour our promises.
Partnership – We work collaboratively with our stakeholders and colleagues towards achieving successful outcomes.
Adaptability – We challenge ourselves to think creatively and to continuously improve.
Achievement – We are engaged and focused on delivering valued outcomes for Western Australia.
Leadership – We use our knowledge and experience to contribute to the long-term benefit of Western Australia.
Employee Benefits
Beyond remuneration, WATC offers:
- Flexible work arrangements to support strong work–life balance, including hybrid work and flexible hours.
- Health and wellbeing benefits, including wellbeing initiatives, two annual wellbeing days and discounted health insurance.
- Generous leave provisions, with personal leave, up to 12 weeks paid parental leave and the option to purchase additional leave.
- An inclusive and supportive culture, underpinned by diversity and inclusion initiatives, First Nations engagement, support for women in finance, and formal recognition programs.
- Professional development opportunities, including training, professional memberships and structured learning pathways.
- Modern workplace facilities, featuring refurbished offices, sit–stand desks, free gym access, fitness classes and end‑of‑trip facilities.
