Andrew McEncroe

Managing Partner

Andrew is the Managing Partner of Derwent's Public Sector practice, leading the team nationally to identify and appoint exceptional executive and board talent. Based in Sydney, Andrew brings over 25 years of executive search experience and has led the Public Sector practice since its establishment in 2014, playing a central role in growing Derwent's presence and reputation across government at every level – Commonwealth, state and territory, and local.

Andrew is passionate about enabling organisations to make a difference through great leaders, a conviction evident in his work with mission and purpose-driven organisations across the public and not-for-profit sectors. Central to his approach is a commitment to comprehensive market coverage: actively engaging professional networks to surface exceptional people who are not visible through conventional channels, and challenging clients to think broadly about where the best leader might come from. Drawing on Derwent's other national industry and specialty practices, Andrew ensures every search benefits from a thorough review of the talent market, including candidates from adjacent and alternative sectors where the role and client are open to it, consistently delivering shortlists that reflect the full depth of available talent rather than the most obvious field.

Andrew is known as a genuine business partner – straightforward to work with, responsive to client needs, and always open to adapting his approach. His integrity and commitment to diverse, merit-based appointments are evident across a track record spanning Secretary, Chief Executive, and board appointments across federal and state government, statutory authorities, and for-purpose organisations.

Before joining Derwent in 1999, Andrew spent six years at Michael Page International, where he held roles across professional services consulting and financial management.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of Newcastle.
