Willoughby City Council is human-centred organisation with a progressive culture focussed on continuous learning and high performance.
The City of Willoughby is known for its Chatswood retail and commercial district and transport hub together with its regional performing arts complex at The Concourse. The St Leonards area is a vibrant education and health precinct which includes the Royal North Shore and private hospitals and ancillary health facilities. The area's thriving economy is complemented by a skilled workforce and attractive living environments with significant historical and natural areas including native bushland, Lane Cove River, and the Middle Harbour estuary.
In this role you will be reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer and contributing strategically across the organisation as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, ensuring excellence in performance for the Council, the community, and the environment.
You will also be directly responsible for a portfolio of critical services to residents and businesses to create a city environment that is liveable by design, safe, functional and meets State and Council policies and statutory requirements. Advancing resilience and climate change initiatives and strong stewardship of the City's rich natural environment is a key focus. With a divisional operational budget of approximately $50 million and nearly 200 staff, this includes Planning, Environment, Design and Infrastructure Delivery, Property maintenance, Public Works, and Compliance.
Significant performance improvements have been achieved in recent years so you will be leading a team with positive momentum in key strategic areas, however there is ongoing reform in Planning and several major capital and infrastructure projects in the early stages to lead. These include Council's Integrated Transport Strategy, affordable housing, business cases for asset development and construction including major leisure facilities, resilience and COVID-19 recovery, and renewing Willoughby's LEP and Development Control Plans.
We are seeking an energetic, experienced, and inspirational executive who builds multidisciplinary teams with the courage to develop and change to provide outstanding services. You will have exceptional community and stakeholder engagement ability, experience providing executive oversight and strategic leadership in the delivery of a broad spectrum of planning and infrastructure services and projects, and sound knowledge of planning policy and legislation applicable in New South Wales and the public policy environment impacting Council.
Willoughby City Council welcomes and encourages applications from people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people with diverse culture and linguistic backgrounds.
