Job Description

  • Office of Energy and Climate Change
  • Accelerate NSW’s transformation to a sustainable future
  • Lead a large branch with a diverse portfolio including EV

The Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC) within the Treasury Cluster focusses on some of the most significant issues facing our state, energy reliability, climate change and emissions reduction. The policies, strategies and programs led by OECC are a key pillar of NSW economic policy which will bring enduring benefits to our economy, the environment and the people of NSW. Our mission is to accelerate NSW’s transformation to a sustainable future.

Climate Change and Sustainability Division is working to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, building resilience to climate change, creating new jobs and cutting household costs, attracting investment and transitioning to a circular economy. The Division is about facilitating change for the better: reduced carbon emissions, driving the uptake of clean energy technologies, more sustainable organisations, mitigating and increasing resilience to climate change and providing excellence in evidence-based policy advice and development.

The Director Net Zero Transport and Energy Demand Reduction leads a large branch with a diverse portfolio including:

  • Programs to increase the affordability and ease of use of electric vehicles in NSW.
  • Programs to increase energy efficiency and reduce peak demand through continuous improvement of the Energy Security Safeguard
  • Programs to accelerate reduction in energy demand by NSW business and households
  • Leadership of a specialist team delivering cross divisional support for program delivery, driving innovation and best practice in program design, information management, portfolio integration, digital, marketing and communications.

We are seeking an executive with extensive experience in the corporate or public sector in program development and implementation across a complex portfolio of work, ideally related to net-zero, climate change and sustainability programs. Experience in the energy efficiency industry will be valuable.

With responsibility for providing the executive, the Net Zero Emissions and Clean Economy Board and the Minister with advice it’s essential you have demonstrated the ability to represent in high profile forums, and build respectful, trusted and collaborative relationships across government, industry and communities. Key stakeholders include electric vehicle industry, IPART, and energy efficiency organisations.

This is a rare career opportunity to join a team leading the way on climate change and seizing the opportunities from the transformation to a new low-cost, clean energy economy.
