Job Description

  • Office of Energy and Climate Change
  • Accelerate NSW’s transformation to a sustainable future
  • Energy network emergency preparedness and regulatory functions

The Office of Energy and Climate Change (OECC) within the Treasury Cluster focusses on some of the most significant issues facing our state, energy reliability, climate change and emissions reduction. The policies, strategies and programs led by OECC are a key pillar of NSW economic policy which will bring enduring benefits to our economy, the environment and the people of NSW. Our mission is to accelerate NSW’s transformation to a sustainable future.

The Energy Division focuses on providing reliable, affordable, safe and secure energy to households and businesses of NSW. This diverse portfolio spans program delivery, consumer and competition policy, energy markets, regulation, clean energy and hydrogen, and social programs.

The Director Energy Operations leads the delivery of energy programs including energy emergency preparedness, and regulatory functions for the gas and electricity networks and the State’s Accredited Service Provider (ASP) scheme.

The role engages extensively with key industry stakeholders such as Australian Energy Market Operator and the State’s transmission and distribution networks and has automatic representation on the State’s Emergency Management Committee and national emergency committees relating to gas, electricity and liquid fuels. A key challenge will be ensuring up-to-date best practice in an ever-changing environment, including dealing with energy emergency issues.

We are seeking an executive who combines technical (network control and safety systems), stakeholder management, and leadership credentials. Ideally you will have experience in the energy sector and a strong understanding of regulatory environments and emergency preparedness. Experience in the utilities and infrastructure sectors will also be well regarded.

This is a rare career opportunity to join a team leading the way on climate change and seizing the opportunities from the transformation to a new low-cost, clean energy economy.
