The City of Willoughby is known for its Chatswood retail and commercial district and transport hub together with its regional performing arts complex at The Concourse. The St Leonards area is a vibrant education and health precinct which includes the Royal North Shore and private hospitals and ancillary health facilities. The area’s thriving economy is complemented by a skilled workforce and attractive living environments with significant historical and natural areas including native bushland, Lane Cove River, and the Middle Harbour estuary.
In this role you will be reporting directly to the Planning and Infrastructure Director and working with the leadership team to drive strategic direction, cultural change and ensuring excellence in performance for the Council, the community, and the environment.
You will be leading a diverse team of approximately 35 staff across a broad portfolio of critical services to residents and businesses to create a city environment that is liveable by design, safe, functional and meets State and Council policies and statutory requirements. This includes strategic planning, development planning and control, and certification.
Willoughby City Council is known for its strong strategic planning framework and significant operational performance improvements have been achieved in recent years, so you will be leading in an environment with positive momentum. A key focus will be on delivering the vision for Chatswood CBD and the local centres, along with having a customer centric approach to delivery of planning services.
We are seeking an energetic, experienced, and inspirational executive who builds multidisciplinary teams with the courage to develop and change to provide outstanding services. You will have exceptional community and stakeholder engagement ability, experience providing leadership in a range of planning services and knowledge of relevant policy and legislation applicable in New South Wales and the public policy environment impacting Council. Experience in local government is not essential and we will welcome interest from the consulting sector and other jurisdictions.
