Austroads solves problems for transport agencies in Australia and New Zealand through high-quality, practical advice, information, tools and services. Its focus is on making mobility safer and more reliable for all users and our transport infrastructure sustainable and future proof. It also provides national services that help transport agencies to operate seamlessly across state borders and bring national efficiencies to their operations.
Austroads is funded by Australian and New Zealand government transport agencies and governed by a board of directors representing each member organisation. It employs approximately 60 people nationally across three business units - Austroads (conducts strategic research and publishes technical guides); Transport Certification Australia (TCA administers the National Telematics Framework and provides assurance in the use of telematics and related technologies); and, the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System (NEVDIS is a unique national system which enables road authorities to interact across state borders and supports industries).
As the General Manager Operations reporting to the CEO you will be an Executive Team member contributing to the leadership of Austroads to deliver the Strategic Plan 2020-2024 which builds on Austroads’ strengths of delivering high quality technical guidance and collectively identifying and solving Australasian transport problems. A key focus is on harnessing the data resources and expertise across Austroads, TCA, and NEVDIS to create greater value for their members and the community.
You will have responsibility for leading Austroads’ Research and Work Program to deliver a schedule of projects that continually evolves to meet the needs of its members. Austroads Research and Work Program sits at the heart of the organisation.
The Research and Work Program includes strategic research, maintaining and publishing Guides to promote a nationally consistent approach to the design, maintenance and operation of road networks, and facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration, maintaining IT applications that support Austroads guidance The current programs are:
- Transport Infrastructure
- Road Safety and Design
- Transport Network Operations
- Future Vehicles and Technology
- Environment and Sustainability
We are seeking a strong leader with expertise in road transport issues, and experience leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver a program of high quality technical and research outputs. It is essential that you have the gravitas to effectively engage with senior stakeholders in the provision of advice and collaboratively solving problems and identifying new opportunities to add value.
